I adore Lisa Kessler's writing style... Descriptive and picturesque with just enough steam to send me searching for the something to cool down with. This is very easyell-written, fast paced, easy to follow with horrific twists and oh so sensuous turns. Amazing job Lisa Kessler! If I could give it ten Hearts, I would.

I don't know how many times I shook my head thinking, "Oh No you just didn't do that.." wanting to throw my Kindle across the room because of the things that Mel would do. Strong women characters are intriguingly stubborn making the story even better. 

The world building is consistent, dark, full of mystery, suspense, angst, romance, horror, and then some.

Nate has issues of his own that he keeps tucked safely away, until, his world is turned upside down as soon as he meets Mel. Can you even imagine what he has to endure? 

I don't use spoilers in my reviews because it can ruin a story for some. This story is so original, and fresh I highly recommend it to the mythology, romantic suspense readers out there who are  18+.

Wow! Goodreads just asked me for my city of birth and date of death... What if I could answer that? Would I live life differently if I knew for sure how much longer I had left?

Interesting thought.

That's generally how my writer brain works. I've been dreaming up stories since I was in elementary school. My first book was titled "The Wonders of Unicorn Creek" and my publisher was Dehesa elementary school.

Since then, I've published numerous short stories in anthologies and magazines. My story, "Immortal Beloved" was a finalist for a Bram Stoker award and was recently re-released in the "Dead Souls" anthology, along with a follow-up never-before-published story, "Subito Piano".

My debut novel, Night Walker, was released in 2012 and won a San Diego Book Award for Best Published Fantasy-SciFi-Horror. Night Walker also won the Romance Through the Ages in the Best Paranormal and Best First Book categories.

Since then, Night Thief and Night Demon have been released. The final book, Night Child will be released in March of 2014.

In the meantime,I have a new series beginning in July 2013 with Moonlight, Book 1 in the Moon Series.

1. What was your inspiration behind writing the Moon Series?

It all started from a short story.

I had met Ray Bradbury back when I was trying to find a publisher for Night Walker. All the rejections were sucking out the fun of writing and I asked him what I could do to help improve my craft. He smiled and told me to write a new short story every week, for a year.
During that year of stories, I wrote a short story about a woman on the run during a new moon night, opposite of a full moon for a werewolf. She had no idea she was shifting into a black jaguar once a month. Anyway, the short story morphed into the first chapter of MOONLIGHT, which then became the Moon Series because I wanted to write a book for every member of Adam’s generation of the Pack.
So far it’s been a blast and I’m grateful to Ray every single day. Without his suggestion, I don’t know that the Moon Series ever would have happened!


2. When you sit down to start writing, what routine do you have, like putting on music, grabbing a beverage, or something else? 

Good question! I actually have a playlist for each book, so I have music, and I light candles and burn incense. It not only keeps me in my chair until the incense has burned out, but the smell from the candles tells everyone else in the house that I’m writing and to leave me be for a while. We have a saying around here, “Wow. Smells like writing!” SYMBOL 74 \f "Wingdings" \s 11

3.Who would you say are your biggest influencers.... Anne Rice and Ray Bradbury, anyone else?

Definitely those two and I would add Christine Feehan and Kelley Armstrong and Angie Fox too... Christine was so supportive of me when I first finished Night Walker that she got me in touch with her agent who read some of my short stories that had already been published. She also gave me some of the best advice ever…
 WRITE THE NEXT BOOK!
The first time I met Kelley Armstrong at Comic-con, she convinced me to join RWA (Romance Writers of America) and without them I may never have gotten published. Networking through RWA helped me find my publisher and my agent! And when Night Walker did finally get published, she was kind enough to give me a cover quote!
And Angie Fox is super savvy and fun. I entered a short story contest because I saw the first prize was a full novel critique from Angie! I won, and if you’ve read Night Walker, that final chapter with the bathtub love scene… Angie’s idea! We laughed later because I gave her credit for the closure sex scene at the end of the book! But after she suggested I add that scene at the end, the next time I submitted Night Walker, I had a contract! She’s a genius!

4 Where did the Moon Series begin, a thought, a memory, or did your muse just crack the whip? LOL

You know, I still don’t know really. I was writing a new short story every week. Some weeks it was harder than others to come up with an idea. But Lana popped in my head. A tiny woman ordering a giant bacon cheeseburger, and she intrigued me. After the short story I wanted to know what would happen next and a few months later, MOONLIGHT was finished. I loved Lana & Adam, and I wanted to spend time with the rest of the Pack so I wrote Hunter’s Moon right afterward.

Any favorite foods, movies, and colors? 

Foods: Many! LOL, Movies: Rocky & Camelot, Color: Purple

When did you start writing and what inspired you to become a writer? 

I was an only child so I was constantly making up stories as a kid! LOL I started writing every night about 15 years ago. Eventually I started selling short stories and worked my way up to a novel after a palm reader in New Orleans told me I was going to be a famous author someday! J  Her nudge definitely changed the course of my writing!  Six months after that visit I had the first draft of Night Walker finished.

  

What projects have you done?  Any new projects coming up? 

I have 3 more new books coming out this year!  Moonlight will be out in July. This book kicks off my new Moon Series, and book two, Hunter’s Moon, will be out in October.  And in December I have a new stand alone book called, Beg Me To Slay…

What kind of pets do you own, if any? 

Yodette is my Boston Terrier and favorite fur-kid.  We also have two other dogs and a cat… J

Are you an independent artist or are you represented by an agency? 

My agent is Laurie McLean from Foreword Literary.  She rocks!

Any favorite bands? Do you use music to inspire you as you write?

Oh I have SO many!!!  For every book I write I create a music playlist with character theme songs, movie soundtracks for mood, etc.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field? 

Practice the craft of writing. Write lots of short stories and learn from what works for you and what doesn’t before you set out to write a novel.  There’s isn’t a recipe for writing, you just have to practice it over and over…

Anything you would like to share with readers on a personal note that would allow them to get to know you better?

Do you find it hard to share your work with others?

I used to, but it’s better now…  Although right before a book releases the butterflies overwhelm my stomach with fluttering and my neurotic inner author voice whispers, “What if they don’t like it?”  Yikes!

Did your writing come from just a need to express yourself or a particular experience that you had?

I wrote for fun every night for about 6 years before I met the palm reader in New Orleans and she mentioned me being a writer.  It’s interesting because once she planted that seed, I had been writing every night for years and had no idea I was practicing for my future! LOL 

The first short story I ever submitted was Immortal Beloved and got published and went on to be a finalist for a Bram Stoker award for short fiction.  I had the bug then, and I knew I wanted to be a full-time writer!
