Cover Reveal and Author Chat with Deena Remiel

Welcome to I Love My Authors
I am ecstatic to have Deena Remiel on the blog today! Welcome to I Love My Authors Deena! I have been a Street Team Member for quite a while now, it never ceases to amaze me just how many stories authors write. Deena is an Amazing Author... and one I adore. I am so pleased to share the Cover Reveal today of  Devil Du Jour (The Book Waitress Series #2)

BEST-SELLING KINDLE AUTHOR of GOTHIC ROMANCE

AAD DEBUT AUTHOR OF THE YEAR NOMINEE...

My name is Deena Remiel, and I am an author of paranormal romance, urban an dark fantasy, and poetry. I also teach language arts to middle schoolers. Curiously, I find myself writing all sorts of correspondence for my family and friends, but they are everything to me, and frequently serve as fodder for elements of my novels, poems, and posts. They take it all in stride, though, and with good humor. So, it's really a perfect give and take relationship! I belong to RWA national and the Desert Rose Chapter of RWA, where there are outstanding people writing fabulous stories.

I grew up in Philadelphia, home of the most amazing cheese steaks, soft pretzels, oh and the Liberty Bell. It was incredible to be living there during its Bicentennial celebration. My husband and I began our own family in New Jersey, and just a few short years ago, Arizona called to my spirit and tempted my husband with much better weather! We moved our family, and the rest is history, or the present, as the case may be!

These are a few of my favorite things: writing and reading of course, chocolate, music with lyrics or melodies that speak to me, soaking baths, singing in the shower, dancing with my buds, romantic dancing with my hubbie, scrapbooking, watching my girls enjoy what they love to do, and laughing at jokes. Visit my website for the latest news and available books: www.deenaremiel.com.

Now for the Interview!!

When did you start writing?
I started writing actually in grade school. But I seriously began writing a few years ago. Just before leaving New Jersey, I was writing a lot of poetry and considering writing for greeting cards. One of my poems went far, but was cut at the last level. Then we moved to Arizona, and my writing really took off.

What inspired you to do it?
I always loved reading poetry, played piano, and wound up writing songs that expressed what a terribly shy girl couldn’t say out loud. Then, when I moved to Arizona, I knew no one, so escaped to my library and the shelves of romantic fiction. Then, while looking at the beautiful vistas around my house, a story sprung to mind and that was that.

What projects have you done?
I've created the paranormal world of The Brethren. Two full-length novels and a novella are published, and a third full-length novel is soon to release. I also created another world, an urban fantasy world of The Book Waitress. The first book in that series has just released.

Any new projects coming up?
The Book Waitress is a 13-part series, similar to a TV show season, if you will. The series is already mapped out, and the second book is close to being finished. Every three novellas will be released as a full-length serialized novel. I’m really excited about this. There’s something for everyone! For those who love short pieces, they can get the novellas separately. For those who like to sink their teeth into longer pieces, they’ll have the novels.

Are you an independent artist or are you represented by an agency?
I am not represented by an agent right now.

Any favorite bands?
Do you use music to inspire you as you write? I adore way too many bands to list here, but if you can say classic rock, my favorites are there. In particular, I love train, too. As for inspirational music, I don’t use music to inspire. I match it up to my stories afterward. You see, music is so engrained in me, it’s impossible to write with songs as a backdrop. No joke, I wake up every morning with some song running through my head. To write with songs playing would be way too distracting. I’ve had some success with instrumental rock, though. As long as the music is unfamiliar, it’s okay.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
First, read! Then, write, and don’t stop. When you start a project, finish it. Don’t leave projects hanging. You must know that you can finish a project of any magnitude. Get an editor! Persevere, and grow thick skin. You will get many rejections, so rejoice in them and learn what you can. Remember to enjoy the experience. Writing should be a passion. Make sure to keep it that way.

Anything you would like to share with readers on a personal note that would allow them to get to know you better?
There’s not much they don’t already know, ha ha. I’ve pretty much put myself out there for a couple of years now on my website. I’d like to thank my stalwart fans who have seen be emerge and blossom. They are my rocks and my army against self-doubt.

Do you find it hard to share your work with others?
Not really. What I feel is excited about sharing it with others. I love to see people laugh, gasp, and swoon over my writing.

Did your writing come from just a need to express yourself or a particular experience that you had?
Well, you saw above about my poetry and how that evolved. What I write now was actually borne out of a challenge to myself. I’d written sample pieces for my students as a model of good writing. One day, a story percolated in my head that challenged me. Could I actually write enough for a novel? Heck yeah! Six months after beginning Trinity, it was done. Six months after that, Relic was finished, and both were contracted with Decadent Publishing.

Nothing worth everything comes without a price ~ The Book Waitress Series

The Book Waitress

Camille Dutton learned early in life Satan was not to be trifled with. Escaping his evil clutches as a child, he's come back with a vengeance for her now.

Derek Galloway's inquisitive nature has led him to be an award-winning investigative reporter and straight into the path of pure evil.

When a child vanishes from a sleepy island town, Camille, its subdued librarian, becomes embroiled in Derek's investigation. A satanic cult has plans for the child, while Satan has plans for Camille and the rest of the world. Amidst evil of the most supernatural and human kind, Derek and Camille find a shred of light and goodness in the form of their budding relationship.

First in the Book Waitress Series, the portal between Hell and Earth will be torn asunder, and it will take everything Camille and Derek have and then some to close it. Satan won't go down easy, but nothing worth everything comes without a price.

Later, she obtained a cosmetology license from the State of Georgia and practiced cosmetology for 8 years before becoming a full time mother and author.  Her works include Mark of the Seer, Broken (The Seer Society Series), Silver Mortal (The Gracen Chronicles), and Beyond the Never Anthology.

Jenna currently resides in North Georgia where, when not writing, she spends  time with her three young children and her loving husband.

Now for the Interview

When did you start writing?
I started writing April of 2009.  At that time I didn't know exactly what to write, I just knew I had to write.

What inspired you to do it?
Well, I'm a wife and a stay at home mom of three.  I had been feeling like I was supposed to be doing something else in life, something more.  I prayed for a full year that God would show me what that something was.  In between all of this my father passed away of lung cancer (January 2009).  Three months after his death God answered my prayers...I was supposed to write.  And so now that's what I do!

What projects have you done?
I have a few projects.  Here there are:  Seer Society Series (Mark of the Seer, Broken) which is published through Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly, Beyond the Never Anthology (along with Madison Daniel, Alexia Purdy, Kyani Swanigan, and Linna Drehmel) which is also published through CHBB.  And Most recently, The Gracen Chronicles (Silver Mortal), which I'm self-publishing.  I also have a stand alone novel in my brain...it's about a certain ghost named Daniel (read BTN and you'll understand) ;)

Any new projects coming up?
Right now I'm preparing for Silver Mortal's launch, which is 9/21/12.  I'm currently working on book two in the series, which is titled Night Viper.

Are you an independent artist or are you represented by an agency?
Currently I'm both.  The Gracen Chronicles is my self-published series, and the Seer Society Series is through CHBB.  Broken is coming out 11/23/12.

Any favorite bands?
Do you use music to inspire you as you write?  Music is a big part of my writing.  Without it I don't know how I could get fight scenes out of my brain.  Also if I was to list every song, every band that has inspired me it would take pages and pages to get them all down.  So I'll just post the songs that inspired The Gracen Chronicles:  Touched and Flames by Vast, Courtesy Call by Thousand Foot Krutch, Big Bad Wolf by Disciple, I'm Alive by Shinedown, Castle of Glass, Victimized, and Roads Untravelled by Linkin Park, What The Hell and I'm With You by Avril Lavigne, Prey and Sword by Ashes Divide...I'll stop there! lol

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
To not get down, to not give up.  Write write write!

Anything you would like to share with readers on a personal note that would allow them to get to know you better?
I'm a loving wife, a dedicated mom, lousy cook, even lousier at house cleaning, and most of the time I'm a scatterbrained mess.  I love God, my family, my friends, and my favorite pastime is reading. :)

Do you find it hard to share your work with others?  I used to.  When I first started out I was afraid of what people would say.  Would they like it?  Would they hate it?
After awhile you get used to the criticism from those who totally crap on your work.  That's when you learn to focus more on the people who LOVE your work.  I mean let's face...you can't please everyone, and the people who say you can are totally lying.

Did your writing come from just a need to express yourself or a particular experience that you had?
My writing comes from my heart, and my imagination is huge.  I've always liked the paranormal so that's what I write.  And even though I'm 33 I still feel 17.

Southern Summer Series
Aracellie walks the earth as an angel. As long as she does no harm, she is free to do as she wishes - including feeding her sexual desires. An encounter with a stranger calls a voice from the past - one she thought she'd forgotten.

My Thoughts on Part 1 ~ Southern Summer

OMGosh!! What an adventurous, HAWT DAYUM erotic read!! Carly has developed a world so carefree even by our standards, with a passion for words that leap off the page and keep you riveted to your seat. I Love it..

This short story is very well written, sexually explicit, and will melt in your e-readers leaving you panting for more.. The gentle twists and turns are perfectly placed creating a perfect HOT summer read.. This is for 18+ readers only and will not disappoint! I am so waiting on the next installment

My Thoughts on Part 2 ~ Southern Submission
Still Reading It! Forthcoming

Concrete Angel

Ethereal is more than her name it will become her state of mind. After a sudden loss Ethereal is given a choice in her afterlife. Choices are all it takes sometimes to find the forgiveness to move on. However the things we learn through our choices may lead to bigger and better things, both inside and out.

My Thoughts on Concrete Angel:

OMG!! Carly Wallace does it again! We find Ethereal in a very difficult situation. This story is about domestic abuse, and the more often then not, the real world outcome from it.... Death. It is also about learning to forgive and being able to move on.

The world Carly has created is so clearly unique and fresh, just the cover spoke READ ME! With twists and turns causing Ethereal to make a choice will she stay angry or will she choose a chance to release it properly being able to move on.

Domestic abuse happens everyday somewhere, how sad have we become as a nation. I have seen more than enough of it in my life, it is the little ones that tear me up. This story touches base in such a way that the scenes are portrayed so clearly the picture painted is very clear.

This is NOT a read for the faint of heart due to itns graphic nature. My recommendation is for the Mature Readers out there... Love this story line, as it offers A RAY OF HOPE AT THE END OF A VERY DARK TUNNEL.

Now for The Interview

When did you start writing?
Well I would have to say when I was in the sixth grade. I loved to write poetry and got an award for a poem I did, now I have no idea where it is now but that was the beginning.

What inspired you to do it?
What inspires me to write? Everything, really! A song that sparks an emotion, a place that creates its own scene, or a person that just screams write about me. Most of all its emotion, having life experiences that someone else can relate to is really calming and reminds me I’m not alone in the world.

What projects have you done?
I have my two short stories, Southern Summer and Concrete Angel and I have 2 poems in Rue Volley’s Bella Morte. I have reviewed so many books I’ve lost count and also help authors with their blurbs and marketing phrases!! Whew and I have some new stories in the works.

Any new projects coming up?
Yes, I am putting together an anthology called Soul Game to be released early next year, with some amazing talents already on board it’s going to be amazing I am super excited about it. As well as a new story a full size book, but it’s still a secret.

Are you an independent artist or are you represented by an agency?
I am published through Injected Ink/PDMI publishing, a great company and I am very happy.

Any favorite bands?
Do you use music to inspire you as you write? I do love, love, love music always have it on and going especially while I’m writing, because I use music to relate my emotions. Favorite bands? Hmm, there are so many!! My Chemical Romance, The Naked And Famous, Pistol Annies, Maroon 5, let’s just be safe and say pretty much all of them!!

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
I got some epic advice from Madison Daniel when I wanted to write, he said “Write for you first and then work out all the details later.” That advice is what I hold onto because it’s so true. Write what you know and love then worry over the other stuff when you’re done.

Anything you would like to share with readers on a personal note that would allow them to get to know you better?
Hmm, I love butterflies, Cadbury eggs, and I am far from perfect. I have a sorted past and I have done some messed up stuff, but I believe if we learn lessons from our mistakes then we grow stronger and better. I battled drugs, I made some bad choices, but look now I am fulfilling my dream and accomplishing so much because I made the changes. Never let anyone hold you down, stand up and fight for what is right for you and dream big!

Do you find it hard to share your work with others? YES!!!
Concrete Angel is a very personal story and pulled from a lot of emotions inside me, but once I let a couple of close friends read it and they said it gave them chills or brought tears to their eyes I knew it was going to be ok. Like I said no one is alone in the world.

Did your writing come from just a need to express yourself or a particular experience that you had?
Both and having a story to tell.

Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule Carly.. I have told you this before and feel compelled to say it again. Thank You for being a major influence for me, and an inspiration to do what I do today.

Before we get to the Interview, I have a treat for Rue, as she is a huge Johnny Depp Fan!

OK, on with this beautiful soul's interview! I Love Rue Volley

1. When did you start writing?
I started writing on February 18th 2010 after being out with friends and doing an early celebration for my 40th birthday. The first three chapters of my first book “Blood & Light” started that night and then I wrote 6 full novels over the next 2 years completing it. I also took “breaks” from the Blood & Light series and wrote the first novel in “a witches tale” and a few of my erotic’s during that time too.

2. What inspired you to do it?
I can tell you it was irritation that got me started and then personal loss that kept me going. I was irritated to turn 40, most women will tell you it is a very strange experience. The moment you realize that you may be at the half way mark in your life. Then shortly after my birthday my Dad passed away and I had a lot of emotional baggage with that loss. I had not seen him since I was teenager and the loss of having him in my life as I grew up was something I was able to explore in the Blood & Light series. His death made me think about a lot of things. About regret, love, family, being loyal to those you care for and I mixed every emotion and trial I felt growing up and had to work through as I let the fact settle in that he was gone and the opportunity to have him in my life was gone. Then my Mother was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and the fear of losing her overshadowed my ability to enjoy the last 2 years I had her here with me. I tried my best to write it out and I feel that I did between the final books in the Blood & Light series and especially in “Stuff & Things and what boredom brings” a withes tale series book #1. That book is 100% dedicated to how I felt and what it was like to lose your Mom, although I packed it with humor to honor her, she was cracking jokes up until the last week of her life and I will never forget that. We lost her in March but that series will carry on and I have mapped it out for 4 books.

4. Any new projects coming up?
Newest one would be an anthology I came up with for Vamptasy Publishing called “Hoblin Goblin”. I absolutely LOVE Halloween and to put out a fun and creepy book on Halloween will rock. I designed the cover and came up with the name and Vamptasy is taking submissions now. Here are the details.
1. 10,000 words and under.
2. Adult Fiction, language okay, no snuff or heavy erotic material.
3. Poets welcome too, poems need to be creepy and no more than a page long.
4. Edits will be provide for grammar, tense and comma placement, do your heavy edits before submission, we do not have time to do those.
5. Submission deadline is Oct 1st, no later. Release date is Oct 31st.
6. You will have your name listed on the front of the book and you will have credit in the back along with your most recent book listed for promotion.
7. All proceeds from this book will go to a hospice in the UK for cancer patients.
8. ALL submissions are to be sent to Nicola@vamptasypublishing.co.uk
9. This book will be sold on amazon in ebook, if it goes to print that will be solely up to Vamptasy Publishing. It will also be listed on the Vamptasy Publishing website, any other websites they decide to list it on is up to them.

5. Are you an independent artist or are you represented by an agency?
I am signed to Vamptasy Publishing and represented by LoveBite Productions which is my production company that has the copyright on my name, my photography and my short films. I also have two entertainment lawyers who represent me when I have to look over contracts and if I come across copyright infringement. They also handle shopping my books to larger film companies and traditional publishers. I also work with Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing and Hot Ink Press.

6. Any favorite bands? Do you use music to inspire you as you write?
Music is a huge part of my life. I have played violin and guitar as well as piano for over 20 years. I played in a signed band for 12 years and toured. I stopped that in 2002 and settled in retail and a new life with my now husband, Von. I have not written one single book without music playing in the background and just to name a few… Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Quicksand, Grade, Elbow, Peter Gabrielle, 30 seconds to Mars, Rival Schools, Placebo, Silversun Pickups, Tricky, Mumford and sons, Deftones, Tom Waits. Just to name a few.

7. What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
Oh my, well. This is a loaded question. First of all, know now that writing the book is the easiest thing you will do on this journey. You have to set up a fanpage on facebook BEFORE you release your book. You should get a website up and running and/or blog and get people involved by sharing snippets before the book even goes to the editor. You need Beta readers to READ AS YOU WRITE. This will help you so much in grammar glitches, possible holes in your plot and to gauge the reaction to the story itself. You need that and pick people who are not overly critical. Overly critical people can hold you up for years and that is such a pain and completely unnecessary. The people who beta for you should be objective and have the ability to handle themselves without beating people down, in other words, do not pick assholes. Hahahaha. Sorry but it is true. Some people should never beta as they tend to make you feel as if you have no talent at all and cannot properly express to you any help at all. Anyway, you should also join as many groups as you can handle and drop those that do nothing for you. Meaning…if you join a group and they do nothing but fight and then post rude comments about you posting links to your work then leave it. You don’t have time to waste in crap places like that. You are looking for groups that link and share, trade likes and ACTUALLY support each other. You are not looking for anything else at all. So read the description on those groups, they may be very clear about “rules” or whatever (I don’t have them in mine except don’t be a troll/rude or start crap and you can stay) and then make your decision based on that. Time…you now have none. Accept it. If you honestly want to get anything out of your book, as in sales and what not know now that all “extra” time you have belongs to it. Think of your book as a child, you cannot neglect it and you have to constantly help it grow. Before I was able to do this full time I got up 2 hours earlier to write and promote, took my laptop to work and did it on my breaks and spent my evenings doing the same. Now if you want to designate days and times to do this then do, but just realize, you get out what you put in. IMPORTANT…get admins for your fanpage and people to help you spread the word. They are so important I would say they rank right up there with getting signed. You have to have help, HAVE TOO. These people should be fans of your work already and have the extra time to post. This will allow you to write and do what you need to do. You still have to post but not all of the time as business, you can now share your personality which is a must do also. I mean, you do know you are selling your book and you right? Who the hell wants to read a book by an author who bitches all of the time or has no personality? I don’t. Anyway, these are SOME of the things you have to do, not all…if you want to see things I post about it go to “Volley View” on facebook, or my fanpage “Rue Volley Blood & Light series”. I share things as often as I can.

8. Anything you would like to share with readers on a personal note that would allow them to get to know you better?
I am a lot of things I guess. I am a lover of the arts in all mediums. I host a magazine and radio station dedicated to artists and helping them get more exposure. I am a workaholic, I do this full time with no time to spare. I have written 23 books and 18 are published. I love anything paranormal in nature and I have seen spirits since I was five. I am Blackfoot Indian and Irish, loyal to my friends and family and I fiercely defend them to the death. I am also bi-sexual and believe in gay rights. I think rapists and murderers should be killed, as in dead, not this wishy washy “they can change” crap…or “what happened to them as a child”, we all have choices in life, take the right road and be smart.
I am also wiccan and a medium and I do not discuss that often as I see no need too. I love anime and I am a huge movie junkie. I write about the paranormal world because being a fiction writer is the best job I have ever had. It allows me to take my imagination and let it run free and there is nothing more fun than that.

9. Do you find it hard to share your work with others?
Not at all. I mean this is me. I am imperfect as everything is in life and you either love me or hate me. I write in simple terms for everyone, I write how I think and the grammar is not always perfect or the comma in the right place but I promise you I can spin a tale and many will tell you the same. I don’t worry about judgment. I know some people do it for a living, but not me. I just like to write and have others experience the crazy that lives in my head. I think once you shed the fear and realize that you cannot please the world everything becomes much easier and the light at the end of the tunnel pops up and waves at you. So do not let it stop you in anyway, that is the true tragedy and the definition of regret.

10. Did your writing come from just a need to express yourself or a particular experience that you had?
My writing came from a death in my family and the realization that we do not live forever. I have no children, my immortality lies in my books. They are the true vampire, not me. So if you want to live forever, write it down.

Brian D. Anderson was born in 1971, and grew up in the small town of Spanish Fort, AL.. He attended Fairhope High, then later Springhill College where his love for fantasy grew into a lifelong obsession. His hobbies include chess, history, and spending time with his son.

Jonathan Anderson was was born in March of 2003. His creative spirit became evident by the age of three when he told his first original story. In 2010 he came up with the concept for The Godling Chronicles, that grew into an exciting collaboration between father and son. Jonathan enjoys sports, chess, music, games, and of course, telling stories.

Now for the Interview

When did you start writing?
I started writing, or at least made some attempts, in my early to mid teens. Through my twenties I developed more depth and skill. But it wasn't until my late thirties that I matured enough to have the patience for a full length novel.

What inspired you to do it?
The Godling Chronicles was inspired by my son, Jonathan. The original concept came directly from him (a fact reflected on the cover). Without him, I'd probably still be writing dark, strange novels, that only I and maybe a few others would want to read.

What projects have you done?
This is the first thing I have ever tried to have published. I've worked on other novels, but have had issues with staying focused on them. With The Godling Chronicles, I had the opportunity to create and explore the kind of world I've always enjoyed as a reader. Combining that with the inspiration I get from my son, has made this period in my writing its most productive.

Any new projects coming up?
The Godling Chronicles-Book Two:Of Gods and Elves is written and currently in editing, and I'm about six chapters into The Godling Chronicles-Book Three:The Gathering. Aside from that, I'm working on a novel set in my hometown, but it's still a work in progress.

Are you an independent artist or are you represented by an agency?
I'm independent. GMTA Publishing has been wonderful in regards to looking out for my interests so far and see no need for an agent...at least not yet.

Any favorite bands? Do you use music to inspire you as you write?
Actually, I was a professional musician for many years. As a result, I'm inspired by many forms of music. I'm a classically trained pianist that grew up listening to hard rock and metal. Later I was exposed to several forms of Jazz.
As far as a favorite band...too many to mention. I would like to give a shout out to Jacob Bunton, my best friend and the lead singer for Alder (Steven Alder from G-N-R's new band) I'm so proud of him.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
Think less about the quality of your writing and more about the quality of your story. Amaturish prose can be fixed by a good editor, but their is no substitute for a good story.

Anything you would like to share with readers on a personal note that would allow them to get to know you better?
From beginning to end The Godling Chronicles is inspired by my son Jonathan. He is why I have rediscovered my love for writing, and is the reason why so many people have had the chance to lose themselves in the world we have created. I know that one day, his name will be known by millions of people around the world.

Do you find it hard to share your work with others?
No. In fact I look forward to it. I love to hear their reactions (positive or negative). I've heard authors say that they only write for themselves. If that is true, why publish? As for me, when I create a world, I can't wait for others to see it.

Did your writing come from just a need to express yourself or a particular experience that you had?
A bit of both. Many people have great stories to tell. But when you have the skills necessary to write down exactly what you think and feel, it's difficult not to take advantage of that ability.
