My First Loves: T Lyn Fletcher - Twisted and Turned

Welcome to I Love My Authors

Today I am presenting a new segment in what I term as My First Loves: and today is one of the first authors that I found in early 2011 who was just starting to launch her book series, called TWISTED and TURNED. T. Lyn Fletcher. I read the interview on Bite This! A Vampire Book Blog hosted by the Awesome Ruby Groves.

Welcome Lyn I am so glad to host you today.

About The Author
In her everyday life, T. Lyn Fletcher is a very successful medical software designer, engaged to a country musician, the mother of two boys, and a member of one of North Carolina’s most prominent and philanthropic families.  Despite her family status and her business success, however, she always sensed that something was buried deep within her that would be revealed one day as her destiny. Fate found her on a June morning after an unexpected dream had revealed a story to her. That story turned into a series of books filled with supernatural events and characters that continued to “twist and turn” as the plot progressed. She recognized that many of the characters were autobiographical and realized that the supernatural wasn’t a foreign subject within her extended family. Writing the Twisted and Turned series of books, with names changed to protect the not-so-innocent, became a driving passion that she could not ignore. “The Unholy Union” is only the beginning for this fascinating author.

Twisted and Turned by T. Lyn Fletcher

"A true love story of supernatural proportions surrounded by intrigue, mystery, and plain old - fashioned demon hunting." T. Lyn Fletcher

The story begins when an archangel in heaven falls so deeply in love with a human soul that she arranges to be born on earth in the same place where his soul will be born. She falls to earth - not, without notice, mind you, by the Powers that be - and is born into the powerful Fletcher family . The soul she so deeply loves in born into the equally powerful Gillespie family, but not as a single man. This soul becomes twins - stunning handsome twin vampires. (Imagine Johnny Depp) Yes, vampires can be born in her books, and if the men so choose, they can reoproduce with the right partner. Yet, this archangel is destined to find and fall in love with one of the twins. To make matters more interesting, the vampire twin whom she falls in love with is every bit a demon despite his ravishing good looks.

The Interview
ILMA: Any favorite foods, movies, and colors?
I am a vegetarian. I have no particular favorite food but if I am held at fang point to answer, it would most definitely be strawberries. I not only love the flavor but the romantic indication one perceives when thinking of strawberries. Especially the ones covered in chocolate paired with a sparkling glass of champagne. This makes me digress to a memory of a certain time alone in a snowy mountain cabin with a certain special man. Amazing how a simple strawberry brings back such wonderful memories.

Movies – now here is a category I can sink my teeth into (no pun intended) I am a diehard movie buff.  I adore theatrical productions of any type from live theatre to those Made-for-Television movies. Which, as you can imagine, makes it difficult for me to choose a most favorite one?  But I can easily tell you my “least” favorite movie of all time which is Snakes on a Plane - I hate those creatures – Elementals in slimy bodies they are, I’m just certain.

My most favorite movie?   I would admit my most favorite movie experience of late has been the “Harry Potter” series. I found the movie adaptation of the JK Rowling book series, challenging to my imagination. Her portrayal of good and evil is by far one of the best written.

My favorite color is Dark Red – but I always drive a black car. So red and black are my favorites, that is if black is really a color.

ILMA: When did you start writing and what inspired you to become a writer?
My dad, before he died, wrote a wonderful book called McDuffy.  My grandfather wrote several parapsychology books. My sister is just an amazing humorist.  Guess it’s in the family genetics among other unique traits! But my inspiration came really and truly from a dream in which actor Johnny Depp ushered in the story line for the series.  It has expanded and flowered since that initial dream but I always give credit where credit is due. And Johnny if you are paying attention – thank you!

ILMA: What projects have you done?  Any new projects coming up?
My main writing experience before Twisted and Turned was writing business plans for software companies.  Yep… weird huh. Imagine if you will, the quite colorful me sitting in a business meeting blending with executives?   I was also ghost writer (scary huh).

Twisted and Turned is my main project but just recently I have joined with a few great writers to create and write a TV series envisioned by Devon Beach.  A wonderful talented writer I met through my association with Vampire Diaries. It is an amazing series that will simply make you rethink the vampire world as you know it.  It is targeted for the teenage crowd so “no” competition with my adult minded series Twisted and Turned.

ILMA: What kind of pets do you own, if any?
I have a Teacup Yorkie who is my best canine friend.  I have been blessed with her in my life for over 10 years. Then there are the cats……..My oldest and by far my best friend is my black cat Frankie (short for Frankenstein). I found him on the side of the road when he was just a baby, he and I bonded instantly. He has super long fangs – makes a great familiar too. .  Opie (no I did not name him) is a buff tabby that my son Dylan adopted. Rupert, Raz, and Hanzo are my three Rag Doll boys. Rupert is a TICA champion. And, yes I do show cats as that is one venue I feel very normal and wow could I share some stories. Then there is DrAcula, oddly enough he has only 1/2 fang – weird huh.  Bellatrix is a solid white petite cat, Pickles is an outdoor grey cat (begged her to come in the house - she refuses) and last but not least there is Iddy Biddy and true to her name she is the youngest in the household.

As you probably figured out, we rescue cats. Also been known to feed a stray baby possum or two.

ILMA: Are you an independent artist or are you represented by an agency?
Independent, but considering a few possibilities of late. While I want to be represented well, choosing the perfect match is time consuming. I am so involved in the series right now, I can’t think past the forest to see the trees.

ILMA: Any favorite bands? Do you use music to inspire you as you write?
My fiancĂ© G.W. Pierce is an amazing musician. He is just finishing up production on his new CD entitled “Let the Lady Dance”. I have to admit that Evanescence, (listening to that right now), Shinedown, and Muse are second best. I love the stories these artists tell through their music.

I utilize music as simply a backdrop to my inspiration.  I can write with or without but it helps to silence this world allowing me to travel alone to my own.

ILMA: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
That’s easy patience, perseverance, and a very thick skin.  Find a great editor that compliments your style and above all, hire a great publicist.  I have to admit I have the best publicist in the universe, Kim Weiss of BlueplatePR located in Raleigh NC.  She is such a wonderful person and actually has helped me edit quite a bit. She is amazing at creating a media buzz and that’s important.  Next don’t discount anything … at all. I have met people that have helped me in the most amazing but odd ways.
Don’t worry about spelling and proper grammar when you write.  Just let it flow and write what you either see or hear. There is plenty of time to tweak you work.  Let me share a Stephen King quote that means quite a lot to me. It is simple but profound “Life isn’t a support system for Art it’s the other way around.”  Draw upon your experiences; we are all here for one reason or the other. And it could be your writings that change the world.

ILMA: Anything you would like to share with readers on a personal note that would allow them to get to know you better?
I am a very intuitive, spiritual person.  I often do speak to the dead – they have so much to say. I am also proficient at Remote Viewing therefore my kids know not to talk to me on the phone if they are not where they are supposed to be ….

I have two great kids and three soon to be three great step-kids. I have a wonderful man in my life.  We live a normal home life.  Well, as normal as a couple can be when one practices the art of writing supernatural genre novels/series and the other a country musician, then add enough kids to classify us as the Brady Bunch.   Both of us are very eclectic, yet our kids are remarkably normal somehow ....

ILMA: Do you find it hard to share your work with others?
Hell no! I love people to read my writings.  I don’t read my own until it is edited so I rely on people to give me their feedback.  It is the people reading my work that give it a chance to breathe.

ILMA: Did your writing come from just a need to express yourself or a particular experience that you had?
There is a bit of fact shaken from my family tree (but I’m not sharing what is true and what is not – leave that to your imagination). A good writer pulls from their own life experiences and there are plenty of those in the series. There are also those chapters/episodes within the series that are not relative to my current life. However as I write those seemingly foreign episodes I often experience the trauma of the moment as if I were there myself. Past life? Maybe, but totally mind blowing regardless!  Yet isn’t that what remarkable literature does?
