Early Release for Bad Behavior Blog Tour Interview and Giveaway 2012

WELCOME EVERYBODY!!

Kevin Hopson, author of Early Release for Bad Behavior, stopped by the blog today. Welcome to I Love My Authors Kevin, it is Awesome to have you here. Come on in folks, sit down, and enjoy the Interview..

Kevin's primary interests are in the science fiction, horror, paranormal, and crime fiction genres.

Prior to hitting the fiction scene in 2009, Kevin was a freelance writer for several years, covering everything from finance to sports. His debut work, World of Ash, was released by MuseItUp Publishing in the fall of 2010. World of Ash was a Top 10 finisher in the 2010 Preditors & Editors Readers Poll, finishing number six in both the Short Story Horror and Short Story Science Fiction categories. Since then, he has had two other short stories released by MuseItUp Publishing - Earthly Forces and Early Release for Bad Behavior. In addition to being available individually in digital format, these stories are collected in print under the title Darkness Abound.

Kevin's follow up to Early Release for Bad Behavior, a story titled A Gut Feeling, is featured in The Immanent World, a dark fiction anthology released by AOE Studios in March 2012. His most recent work, Three Miles Below, is currently scheduled for an October 2012 release by MuseItUp Publishing.

When did you start writing?
To be honest, I hated writing up until college. It wasn’t until then that I really got into it. As far as writing professionally, I started about 12 years ago. However, I have only been writing fiction for the past few years.

What inspired you to do it?
I found it was the best outlet for my imaginative mind. There’s something about creating a product from scratch (in this case a story) that can’t be duplicated in other professions.

What projects have you done?
I have five books that are on the market right now. Three short stories – World of Ash, Earthly Forces, and Early Release for Bad Behavior – were all released as individual e-books through MuseItUp Publishing. These stories are also collected in print (self-published) under the title Darkness Abound. Furthermore, I have a follow-up story to Early Release for Bad Behavior, which is titled A Gut Feeling. This story is included in a dark fiction anthology – The Immanent World – by AOE Studios.

Any new projects coming up?
My most recent contracted work, Three Miles Below, is scheduled for an October 2012 release by MuseItUp Publishing. I also have a short story that will be featured in a zombie anthology in the near future.

What is your opinion on people who post bad reviews?
I don’t mind bad reviews as long as they’re constructive. Writers can always learn from their readers. If someone is posting a bad review solely to bash a writer, however, I have a problem with it.

Anything you would like to share with readers on a personal note that would allow them to get to know you better?
This is about as personal as it gets, but my wife and I lost our first son, Aydin, back in August of 2010. He was stillborn at 36 weeks, and the months that followed were probably the roughest of my life. I am happy to say, though, that my second son – Skyler – came into this world healthy on October 23, 2011. He has changed my life, and he has inspired me to write again after a long lay-off.

What are your habits when you sit down to create? Do you have to be in a certain room? Outside?
Some people like to play music while they write. Not me. I need complete silence to be effective. I almost always write in the same room. I’ve tried writing outdoors (as nice as it seems), but there are too many distractions for me.

Will you ever stop writing? Have you ever had a moment that you felt like quitting and why?
I can’t envision myself not writing (as long as my brain and body stay healthy). There have been a few times when I’ve felt like quitting. A lengthy period of rejections, the passing of my first son, and slow book sales all contributed to this mentality at some point, but I eventually overcame these obstacles.

Do you use video to promote your work? Do you think giving people a visual helps with sales?
I have done book trailers for a couple of my books. I don’t know if it’s actually helped with sales, but I think a visual demonstration certainly assists in getting the premise of the book across to readers.

What animals do you have?
I have a seven-year-old male Chihuahua named Paco.

Do you like vampires who sparkle or bite?
Ones that definitely bite.

Do you have any fun giveaways going on?
I have a giveaway that will take place at http://www.freebookdude.com/ during the second half of June. I will be giving away free copies of Early Release for Bad Behavior, as well as gift certificates to my publisher’s bookstore.

Where can we find your page/address?
I have a blog at http://kevin-hopson.blogspot.com/.

Who does your cover art? Do you design it yourself?
Delilah Stephans has done all three of my covers at MuseItUp Publishing. She is one of the company’s designated cover artists. We (readers) have some input as to what we would like to see, unlike most publishers, but our cover artists do most of the work. All of our cover artists are very talented, too.

Are you on Goodreads? If so, please share your page address and has it helped you reach more fans?
Yes. The address is http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/4404552.Kevin_Hopson. It has definitely helped me reach more fans.
