About The Right Kind of Reckless:

I'm in love with a woman I can't have, and there's absolutely nothing I can do to stop myself from falling.

The problem? Her brother's my best friend.

I shouldn't want her this much. Not when it goes against the bro code. Not when I've never been able to commit to a woman for longer than a night.

But one look into her eyes and I'm a mess for her. She's my everything. And I have to walk away with nothing.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Addie and I watched the guys play round after round of Skee-Ball, while Chloe jumped and cheered and stole the occasional ball from each of their rows. No matter what my state in life was, I was happy the three of them had found one another.

“Here, let’s get our picture drawn.” Knocking me out of my woolgathering, Addie guided me toward one of the caricature sketchers who sat just outside the carnival gates. The man had a unibrow the size of Lake Michigan’s shoreline, and his mustache was curled at the end, handlebar style. But his work was amazing. Charcoal sketches with colored eyes, balloon- shaped heads with movie-s tar hair.

“How much for both of us?” Addie asked, fishing through her purse. We sat on the stools, as directed, our shoulders touching.

“Thirty- five,” the guy said, his fake French accent too thick to be believable.

I groaned and looked at my friend. “Seriously? That’s too much.”

“Seriously. We have to do this.” Addie mocked me. “Look at how cute those are.” She pointed to a couple with a heart surrounding their heads. Little doves swooped in the air around them, carrying heart balloons in their beaks. Had to hand it to the guy. He was talented.

“I’ve got this, ladies.” I looked up at the sound of Max’s deep voice, finding him searching through his wallet. He pulled out the money, handed it to the artist, then lifted his gaze to meet mine. A soft smile covered his bow-shaped lips, and everything inside me stirred to life at the view.

Addie faked a cough, then pressed a hand over her stomach. “Oh…oh no. I don’t feel very good, guys.”

I faced her and narrowed my eyes as she stood. Don’t, I mouthed, already knowing her game.

Ignoring me, she looked at Max and said, “You’ll take my place, won’t you, Max?” She batted those brown eyes and twirled a lock of her dark hair. No doubt her way of getting anyone and everyone to say yes to her. “Lia here was dying to get her picture drawn.”

Oh, the little liar…

Max nodded, immediately taking her empty seat to my right. With an extra hop in her step, Addie walked away, her ponytail swinging back and forth more the closer she got to Collin and Gavin and Chloe. I wanted to pull it out of her head.

“All right, look this way.” I blinked at the sound of the artist’s voice, my body far too aware of Max’s heady scent.

God, why did he have to smell so good? Fit so perfectly against me?

“You’re much too stiff.” The artist tsked from behind his easel. “Here, wrap your arm around zee pretty lady’s waist, like so.”

I sucked in a breath as Max’s hand was guided along my back, ending at my side with his fingers tucked just under the edge of my T- shirt. I swallowed, shifting in my seat and instantly remembering our kiss— the way he’d moved his mouth over mine.

Warmth pooled low in my stomach, drifting in between my thighs. His touch was like adrenaline, kick- starting my orgasm-starved body to life.

“Chin on her shoulder, lips close to her ear…” I shuddered as Max followed the artist’s directions to a T, the stubble on his chin igniting a stormy thunder inside me. Max seemed unaffected, his chest rising and falling at an even rate, while mine was suddenly in asthmatic mode.

“Relax,” Max whispered in my ear, his warm breath grazing my neck. “I’m not gonna bite ya.”

I shut my eyes and shifted once again, the ache between my thighs becoming unbearable. “I didn’t want to do this,” I finally murmured, refocusing on the artist.

Max laughed softly, his chest vibrating against my back and shoulder. “I know you didn’t.”

My eyebrows pushed together in annoyance. “Then why did you agree to sit here?”

“Because Addie wouldn’t give up until I did.” He sighed, far too relaxed compared to me.

I was jumping, itching, crawling with…something, yet he was unaffected. Which only further emphasized that he didn’t want me the way I did him.

“Plus, she folds my underwear, remember? Gotta make sure she doesn’t stick ants in them or something.”

“Yeah, like Addie would ever stoop to your level.” I couldn’t help but grin, my nerves easing slightly.

He squeezed my ribs. “You would.”

I turned to face him, our noses inches apart. “Damn right I would.”

A slow nod later, he moved even closer, our bodies in sync…

My smile fell away. “Maxwell,” I whispered, so lost in his dark eyes that I couldn’t concentrate. The apology was there on my tongue like earlier, but the need weighing me down was even heavier. How could I ever be just friends with a guy who was likely to break my heart, no matter what we were to each other?

“Tell me why you kissed me that night.” He looked at my lips, a serious glint in his eyes.

Blood rushed to my face at his out-o f- the- blue question. My composure slipped as confusion took its place. Why was he asking me this?

“Because I…” I gulped. “I owed you, remember? For bailing me out and for keeping me safe from those guys.”

Something shifted in his eyes. Disappointment? I squeezed my eyes shut at the thought. When I looked back at him, I knew I was imagining things, because flirty, fun Max was back, winking at me. “Well then.” He cleared his throat. “That’s good to know.”

“What’s good to know?” I frowned.

“That you still owe me.”

Cover Reveal - Respect - An Infidelity Stand-alone Novel - by Aleatha Romig

⚛⚛⚛ Synopsis ⚛⚛⚛

Respect - An Infidelity Stand-alone Novel

“The making of a man”

Standing at what I believe is the precipice of my life, I, Oren Demetri, was too young to understand that it wasn’t and too old to imagine that it couldn’t be.

The already hefty accumulation of my successes and failures, bravery and fears, and rewards and suffering, had brought me to this point. It was hard to contemplate the things I’d done, and yet, in reality I’d only begun to learn the possibilities.

I suppose that’s how it was for me at twenty-nine years of age on the brink of all I’d ever wanted without fully realizing the price I would pay. Yet in that moment, I knew there would be no cost too great or sacrifice I wouldn’t make. I had no idea how far-reaching that moment of self-discovery would be; because as the congregation’s murmurs quieted, bleeding into silence and allowing the thump of my heart to be the only sound I heard, I was a man filled with love and adoration, emotions in stark contrast to those I needed in the world I’d built or the one I was about to enter.

Angelina Costello was my dream and now my reality. I’d worked diligently to move beyond the actuality of being a dockworker’s son to becoming a self-made, successful entrepreneur, all in an effort to earn the right to call her my own. I’d overcome servitude to others, collecting their paychecks and lowly praises, to being the one who signed the paychecks and offered the accolades when they were rightfully earned.

The world was my oyster and walking toward me on the arm of her uncle was my pearl. I’d found her amongst the empty shells life had offered. There was no need to pry open another possibility. Angelina was all I wanted. Yet my path was uncharted. There was more for me to earn, lose, and willingly give.

The top of that list was respect.

This stand-alone novel may be read without reading the Infidelity series.

From New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a stand-alone novel based from her beloved Infidelity series. With classic Aleatha Romig twists, turns, deceptions, and devotions, this new epic romantic thriller will delve into a world where family takes on new meaning and even the inhabitants are suspicious of the next chapter.

⚛⚛⚛ Excerpt ⚛⚛⚛

Donegal Plantation was beautiful. It echoed the glory and the agony of history. Now a museum, it was often used as a guesthouse as well. But for the month of October, no rooms were rented out. It was simply too crazy a time.

And, at the moment, Donegal Plantation was “haunted.”

Not just in reality. But also commercially, for the Halloween season.

An early 1800s hearse sat in the sweeping drive. The striking white pillars at the entrance were draped in black. Menacing witches on broomsticks were hung here and there along the antebellum porch—along with ghosts, goblins, and evilly grinning jack-o’-lanterns.

Driving up to the house, Ashley Donegal smiled—and let out a sigh at the same time. Donegal Plantation was her home. She loved it—fiercely. She was proud of the property. They had a re-enactment each year of the Civil War skirmish that had been fought here. And they laid it all out for the truth of what had been.

The good that had occurred.

And the bad.

Her grandfather, Frazier, was still alive. And, with the help of his employees Beth and Cliff, he kept Donegal plantation going with tours and events—such as Halloween.

So it was right and good that she was now on this trip to plan her wedding to Jake Mallory. It was here—years ago—her ancestor’s death had been proven to be a murder, not just an act of war. And it was here where they had solved the murders that had taken place then.

The murders that had brought her and Jake back together again.

She had been in love with Jake as long as she could remember. But it hadn’t been until her father’s death that Jake, a member of an elite unit of the FBI, had come back.

And they had been together ever since.

What had caused them to take so long to marry, she wasn’t sure. Probably because it hadn’t really mattered. They were together. But recently, they’d talked family. And in talking family…a wedding seemed the thing to do.

And if they were going to have a wedding, it was going to be at Donegal Plantation.

⚛⚛⚛ Synopsis ⚛⚛⚛

Stained glass artist Callie Davis is in desperate need of a vacation. Burnt out and on the edge of a nervous breakdown, she’s fleeing the pressures of her career and is taking refuge on Massachusetts’ tiny Carter Island. Callie yearns for long, lazy days and pretty walks on the beach—blessed solitude and an escape from the complications of her life. Then she bumps into gorgeous Nate Carter and everything changes.

Sheriff Nathan Carter couldn’t be happier now that the height of the summer season has finally come and gone. After four endless months, tourists have packed their bags and headed for the mainland. The quiet days of autumn are about to befall the town—the way Nate and his fellow Sandersonians like it best.

But nothing ends up quite the way Nate expects when he meets the beautiful blonde with the big blue eyes. Callie’s pretty smiles hide secrets—deep, dark mysteries that could cost them both their lives if they continue digging into the past and cross a killer’s path.

⚛⚛⚛ Excerpt ⚛⚛⚛

“Would you like to dance?” Nate asked.
Callie smiled. “I would love to.”
He took her hand and they walked to the center of the crowded floor. “Does this work for you?”
She nodded. “It’s perfect.”
“All right then.” He kept her hand in his and wrapped his arm around her waist.
She settled her arm around the back of his neck and followed his lead, breathing in his aftershave and laundry soap scent, trying to remember the last time she’d let a man hold her. “The park looks amazing. Very festive.”
“They did a great job with the setup,” he said as his eyes tracked around the grounds before they met hers again. “We always have a solid turnout. Thursday night is kind of our way of celebrating the end of the season before we welcome mainlanders for the rest of the weekend.”
She let herself relax against him. “I’m glad I’m here to enjoy it.”
“Me too. Although I’m sorry you missed dinner.”
“That wasn’t my intention. I ended up having something small to eat at the cottage.” She’d made quick work of shoving half a granola bar into her mouth as she slid on her sandals on the way out the door.
“I tried to snag you a brownie, but people around here are pigs when it comes to Molly’s baking, so…” He shrugged.
She smiled. “I appreciate the effort.”
He looked to his left, did a double take, and smiled, letting go of Callie’s hand long enough to send up a quick wave. “Ah, shit,” he said under his breath as he captured Callie’s fingers, lacing them with his.
She frowned. “What?”
“Mrs. Beckle.”
Callie casually glanced in the direction Nate had just waved, where two women looked his way. “I take it Mrs. Beckle’s not the tall brunette?”
“No, that would be Anna, Mrs. Beckle’s daughter,” he said on a bit of a sigh. “Mrs. Beckle is convinced that Anna and I are fated or something.”
Callie looked Anna’s way again, noting her enviable curves filling out her red sleeveless top and black maxi skirt, then back into Nate’s eyes. “She’s very pretty.”
“Yeah, but she’s not very nice. She put gum in my hair when we were in second grade—a huge wad of Hubba Bubba. It was two pieces—maybe three. My mom tried getting it out with ice cubes and peanut butter, but she ended up shaving my head.”
Callie laughed, truly delighted with the man staring into her eyes. “So you’re a grudge holder?”
He frowned. “I thought you’d be on my side. Shaved head. In January. Do you know how cold it is around here that time of year?”
Callie threw her head back, laughing in a way she hadn’t in far too long—or maybe since Saturday night when Nate had held her in the frigid Atlantic waters.
He laughed too and pulled her closer against him. “It’s true. And I’m only half joking right now.”
It was hard not to really like Nate Carter. “You know, if law enforcement doesn’t work out, you should give comedy a try.”
He eased back enough to touch a hand to his heart. “The pain is real.”
Chuckling, she shook her head. “You’re a funny guy.”
“I’m glad you think so.”
It seemed she didn’t do much else but think about Nate, especially after seeing him again this morning.
The musician strummed the last few notes of the song, and the band picked up the pace with Tom Petty’s “American Girl.” Callie looked at her fingers intertwined with Nate’s, knowing she needed to let him go. “Thanks for the dance.” r

⚛⚛⚛  Exclusive Excerpt ⚛⚛⚛

David practically flew across the lounge to get to Lauren. The sound of her head hitting the edge of the black lacquered piano was horrific, his entire being immediately going into protection mode. He couldn’t get to her fast enough. Miles was already by her side kneeling next to her as several patrons crowded around with looks of concern.
David pulled her into his lap. “Is she bleeding, Miles? Is she breathing?”
“I don’t see any blood. She’s knocked out cold.” Miles’ face was ghostly white.
David lifted her into his arms and hurriedly carried her across the room. He was taken aback by how light she was, realizing she must have lost a lot of weight. A security guard had arrived by this time letting him know that the paramedics were on their way. Tim, the bartender ushered them into a small office out of the public eye. David gently set her on a worn, leather chair and knelt in front of her, stroking her cheek.
“Lauren? Lauren, darling please wake up!” He turned to Tim. “Can you please get me some ice for her head?” Tim nodded and quickly exited.
Miles looked on and ran his hand through his jet black hair. His bow tie had been loosened and hung limply around his neck. “One minute she was singing and the next, she flubbed the intro of our last song and was on the floor. She had a weird expression. I knew something was wrong.”
David kept stroking his fingers across her cheeks staring at her face, willing her to open her eyes. He felt guilty for startling her during the last song. He had wanted to wait till the show was over and the crowd had thinned out before he approached her. But hearing her lovely voice echo down the hallway of the hotel made him desperate to see her, to lay eyes on her after being away for so long. The anticipation of seeing her again had him muddled from the time he had arrived in the states—he could hardly concentrate on anything else. Now she was unconscious, lying helpless before him, making his heart heavy with worry. If anything were to happen to her….
A small moan escaped her pink lips, and she shifted in the seat.
“Lauren, open your eyes. Please, open your eyes,” he pleaded.
Her eyes fluttered open and immediately pooled with tears staring back at him. “You’re here,” she whispered. He pulled her gently into an embrace as she started to cry, clutching the back of his neck. He rocked her silently, his own eyes filling with tears.
“There, there, love. It’s all right. Thank God, you’re all right.” He couldn’t let go of her and did his best to try to maintain his composure. “I missed you so much. You have to know that,” he whispered into her ear. She nodded, her grip tightening around him.
